Bird Brooch or Necklace in 925 Sterling Silver.

The two ravens Huginn (“Thought”) and Muninn (“Memory/Mind”) are Odin´s messengers. They were given the ability to speak by Odin to bring him information from all over Midgard.
Beyond that, they also bear symbolic meaning for the god. In a poem from the Poetic Edda (a collection of old Norse poems and mythology), Odin (also called the “raven-god”) voices his fear that one day they will not return form their daily flights, which is often interpreted as Odin's fear of aging and losing his wisdom, knowledge, and mental abilities, which are some of his main attributes.
„Hugin and Munin
Fly every day
Over all the world
I worry for Hugin
That he might not return
But I worry more for Munin ...“

This piece is a detailed reproduction of a bird-brooch made of silver coated bronze. The original was found in Uppåkra, Sweden, and is dated to the Late Scandinavian Iron Age (400-1050 AD). There are many variations of this brooch, some with faces embedded in the back of the bird, and some with beautiful ornaments or details, like this one.

Sadly, the picture of the original is not longer available on the Uppåkra archaeology website, but you can find it here:
